Just off the Palliki Peninsula's coast, at the entrance to Livadi Bay, lies the secluded paradise of Vardiani Island, veiled in an aura of mystery and allure. In 1824, directed by the Englishman Charles Napier, a majestic lighthouse, soaring to a height of 25 meters, was erected on the island. Its cylindrical tower and adjacent keeper's house stood as a guiding beacon for passing ships.
Regrettably, the tower met its demise during Italian bombing in 1942 and succumbed to the ravages of the 1953 earthquake. Today, a smaller lighthouse stands in solemn tribute, faithfully illuminating the waters for navigating vessels.
